About

Marie Toucet is a Puerto Rican visual artist living and working in Jersey City Heights. Marie’s work explores themes of identity, place, and culture through representational works in multiple mediums.

In both her figurative and landscape paintings Marie seeks to capture light and a sense of atmosphere, allowing these to suggest potential narrative interpretations for the content of her work.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Marie moved to New York to complete her college education. Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Architecture from Columbia University and a Masters of Architecture from Pratt Institute.

After a 30-years career in design and construction, Marie returned to a regular and consistent art practice in 2020. Since then she has been engaged in developing and refining a body of work and participating in group exhibitions in Jersey City. In addition, she has taken classes at the School of Visual Arts, the Art Students League of New York, the New York Academy of Art, and a variety of online workshops.
